Sometimes I think of this complex: How underrated are the writers; the people who create stories. Stories won't survive without a writer, but how many times have you seen writers being respected, even in a trivial way? Movies and TV shows are all about the writers. Marvel is all about writers. We adore the heroes, sympathize with the villains, but forget the writers. What do we see the first thing in a movie? The actor. Do we ever think of the writer? We think of the director at the very least.
And let's not talk about the music industry. You know, we associate music with the singers and the instrument players, at the very least. Remember the recently viral meme, "When Arijit Singh said, 'Jaata hai.....de!', I really laughed"? It was not Arijit Singh who 'said' that! The lyrics were penned down by Kummar.
Having the most beautiful tasks and providing jobs to many, writers lose their individuality. For the sake of their needs, they sell their works to others, knowing very well that the actors and the singers will be more famous than they ever will be. For instance, tell me do more people know Shah Rukh Khan and Arijit Singh, or do they know Anjum Rajabali and Amitabh Bhattacharya? Without a story or a lyric, the actors or the singers won't exist! But the writers can exist without an actor or a singer! Still, the bigger paradox called life makes the actors/singers more famous than the screenwriters/lyricists and even the authors.
