Hello everyone. This is not a piece based on any particular court case, nor any biblical or other religious judgement. This is based on the general concept of judgement, how the world sees judgement as.
Judgement is defined in the dictionary as
"the ability to form opinions or to make sensible decisions." Adding to this, it is defined as, "an opinion formed after carefully considering the information you have." But, how well do we make it live upto it's defination? Judging is a natural instinct. May it be friends, strangers or even family and siblings, we judge everyone. It's something natural, so let's not deny the fact. But, here's the real question, on what basis do we judge people? And why do we compare two people, while knowing that no two people can be the same?
So yesterday night, I was conversing with an aunt of mine, who, as is common with Indian relatives, started talking about my studies, how I shouldn't use my phone all the time, and such things affect the brain. Then she went on telling about what I should do in future. That after this, you do that, you do this, then you will get good money. Things were going good till then. But then, she told that had I read better and scored better marks, I would be somewhere else. But just due to this phone, I couldn't perform well. I was like, what the hell? I will not use phone, it's ok, I will follow your career advices, it's okay, but how can you judge me by the stream that I decided to pursue! That's not good, right? That arouse in my mind things that keep/kept on happening throughout not only mine, but everyone's life till now.
We have all been judged right from the beginning in our life. If you were the younger child, you were judged based on the behaviours and manners, marks and achievements of the elder child; if you are the elder child, you would be compared with some random "ideal" child, in the locality. In school, obviously you will be judged by marks and your 'activeness'. If you don't score well, then, even if you are great in other things, you will branded as stupid and useless, and will have to live your life as that. If you are an introvert, and don't talk or mix with others unless necessary, you will be judged as a dumb guy. If you open up a bit too much and talk and laugh with everyone, you will be judged as a crazy guy. If you are a girl and you go out with your male friend, then, aww! They are in a relationship, it's a crime in Indian society. Girls, mostly, are judged in every sphere in our society.
So, here's the thing:Why do we judge people so much? Is it really necessary to do so? Do you ever realize what effect does it has on people? Judgement is the reason why most people go into depression and commit suicide. It is the reason why people are afraid of the outside world. People are afraid to open themselves up. People are afraid to do things of their will. Rather they do things which the other people will appreciate. Judgement kills dreams, free speech, and also personality. Judgement kills heroes. Judgement makes people part of the Bystander effect.
Imagine this:Sachin Tendulkar is playing cricket in his neighbouring field as a child. He hits a long six and breaks the window of a house near the field. A man comes out from the house and scolds him a lot, stops the whole team from playing cricket there. He even drags Sachin to his parents and scolds them; his parents are ashamed as well as angry on him, they never allow him to play again, just because he broke a window, and a person judged him. Just because he broke a window, he failed in achieving his dreams. He would be sitting at his home somewhere, watching the matches, thinking himself as a fool, who is unworthy of anything in his life.
We appreciate the people good at other things, but when it comes to our own family, our own children and siblings, we demotivate them! "Cricket and all are okay, but what about your studies?" We need to motivate people are almost everytime. We shouldn't judge people without knowing their story. Stop judging people, and start understanding them. Okay, not judging people doesn't mean that you'll not tell people what's right and what's wrong. Here's what can be done if a person has the capability, but doesn't know how to utilize them. We should give them the direction to use the ability properly.
So, now you will tell me, why will we say things to people then? Like I said, there's a line between judging people and telling them what's right and what's wrong! Like one shouldn't appreciate a person who wants to become an actor but is only doing TikTok videos. Likewise also the persons watching action movies and speaking about joining army, should also not be appreciated. And here's to the people who judge: first look into the mirror, look what you have achieved in your life, then tell about others. And here's to the people who feel down because they are judged:Just try and ignore those comments. It is very hard to do so, but that's what you should do. You know what you are and you know your worth. Prove your worth to the people in action, not words. We have all been there. Some come out successful, while others become prey of the judgement. Judge people after knowing them properly, or if possible, don't judge at all. Cheers.
Bad judgment kills some people's self confidence from inside and push them into darkness of desolation. Good judgment can enlighten someone's path if he/she is confused what to do next and where to go in his/her life. Be a motivator. Help others in progress. Never demotivate anyone. You never know if you are spoiling someone's life and upcoming career intentionally or unintentionally
